About the role
The Mater Mothers’ Hospital is hiring a Clinical Midwifery Consultant for our Inpatient and Gynaecology Services.
This is a permanent, full-time position, working 38 hours per week, based at our South Brisbane Campus.
The Clinical Midwifery Consultant (CMC) is a highly skilled and experienced Registered Midwife—or a Registered Nurse /Midwife—who demonstrates advanced clinical expertise and leadership in the speciality of midwifery. The CMC provides expert clinical consultancy, takes a lead role in the promotion of contemporary Nursing/Midwifery practice, is actively involved in research, education and continuous quality improvement and facilitates the development of Nursing/Midwifery services across the continuum of care. The Mater Mothers’ Hospital Inpatient & Gynaecology Services is a tertiary level service providing family centred care to both private and public women.
In this newly created role, you will report directly to our Assistant Director of Clinical Services and play a pivotal role in driving excellence within our Inpatient and Gynaecology Services portfolio at MMH. You will provide expert leadership, foster collaboration with CMCs in other departments, and drive evidence-based improvements to support high-quality, cohesive maternity and gynaecology care.

Salary range: $66.85 - $72.58 (RN3) per hour plus 12% Superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What You'll Be Doing:
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the delivery of safe, evidence-based, and person-centred midwifery care aligned with organisational policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Fostering clinician engagement by actively involving and empowering staff who provide direct patient care in the planning, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of midwifery and gynaecology health services
- Using a quality improvement framework, to initiate, lead, and participate in activities that enhance service delivery and ensure patient satisfaction and safety
- Leading the development and implementation of innovative models of care that promote continuity
- Reviewing systems, processes, and care planning based on evaluated data and initiating improvement activities
- Demonstrating leadership as a role model and clinical leader for excellence in Inpatient care
- Maintaining current knowledge and participating in education programs and research activities to enhance Nursing/Midwifery practice
About You:
The ideal candidate for this role will possess:
- Bachelor of Midwifery or dual degree Nursing/Midwifery and have current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Minimum of five years full time experience in specific clinical specialty including experience as a Clinical Midwife or other leadership role.High-level leadership skills with the ability to lead and mentor a team through significant change in a complex and fast-paced organisation.
- Experience in delivering safe, evidence-based, and person-centred care aligned with organizational policies
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams
- An ability to work autonomously and function as a member of a diverse health service delivery team
- A commitment to professional development, continuous learning, and promoting best practices in Nursing/Midwifery
- The ability to drive change, uphold clinical accountability, and achieve optimal outcomes for patients and families
