About the role
The Mater Mothers’ Hospital had an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner to join our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We have two positions available, one 12 month, maximum-term position and one permanent position, both working 38 hours per week.

The NCCU is based within Mater Mothers’ private and public hospitals supporting 10,500 births per annum at Mater. The service consists of 47 intensive care cots and 324 special care cots, and support services such as Mater Babies’ clinic, Growth and Development clinic and retinopathy of prematurity service. Our NCCU is a highly specialised and complex perinatal tertiary referral centre for sick and preterm babies and babies requiring cardiac and surgical care for the Southeast and central Queensland regions and Northern New South Wales.
Salary range: $75.27 - $77.15 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Practices autonomously and interdependently at an advanced clinical level, using a framework of evidence based clinical practice. Takes responsibility for the management of patients within own caseload and manages own workload to facilitate patient access within required timeframes.
- Provides an expert patient-centred consultancy practice participating in direct patient care provision across a series of services.
- Consults, communicates, and provides feedback to the relevant Medical Consultants, including the patient's General Practitioner, and other members of the healthcare team involved in the patient's care.
- Participates in, manages, and facilitates periodic review and implementation of clinical processes, quality indicators and guidelines for specialty.
- Works with Nursing/ Midwifery Unit Managers and colleagues to support and drive succession planning and proactively promotes the role of the nurse in relation to delivery of patient care.
- Leads audit and research and develops interdisciplinary team guidelines and protocols incorporating current evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrates leadership as a role model and expert clinician for the provision of excellence in patient care using evidence-based practice and professional commitment.
About you
Essential:
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Endorsement/eligibility to obtain endorsement with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Nurse Practitioner
- Thorough knowledge of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation concepts when planning patient and carers needs.
Desirable: (working towards)
- Minimum of five years’ experience in Neonatal care
- High-level interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills with the ability to engage with internal stakeholders at various levels
