About the role
Join Mater Pathology's Cellular Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory as a Scientist specialising in Molecular Microbiology. The successful applicant will secure a 12-month maximum term contract covering maternity leave, where you will work 38 hours a week, based out of our South Brisbane campus.

As a key member of our team, you will leverage your expertise to independently apply scientific judgment and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of test results through the analysis of patient specimens. Mater Pathology, established in 1919 under the supervision of the Sisters of Mercy, has evolved into a leading pathology service in Brisbane and its surrounding areas. Our laboratory is renowned for its technological advancements and commitment to patient care, with all profits reinvested back into enhancing healthcare services as part of Mater Misericordiae Limited.

Mater Pathology takes pride in its rich history and expertise in complex pathology, delivering exceptional service through a dedicated team of specialist pathologists, scientists, technicians, laboratory assistants, phlebotomists, couriers, and support staff. With over 20 conveniently located collection centres in various suburbs, Mater Pathology also offers a 24-hour collection service at Mater Adults Hospital in South Brisbane for patient convenience.

Salary range: $39.86 - $58.59 (HP3) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you'll be doing

  • Apply a sound level of scientific knowledge and experience to perform routine testing in Molecular Microbiology.
  • Participate in a rotating roster including shift work and weekends as required.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the principles of quality improvement and actively participate in the quality system
  • Contribute to the appropriate management of resources necessary to perform the work including equipment maintenance
  • Manage work priorities to effectively meet critical clinical requirements and ensure accurate clinical diagnostic results are reported promptly.
  • Provide professional level clinical services commensurate with the level of experience.

About you 

  • A Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Medical Laboratory Science or a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in a relevant field of expertise or an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in Molecular Microbiology
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and commitment to quality assurance
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Commitment to quality and safety
