About the role

Mater Health – Revenue is seeking an exceptional Manager - Clinical Coding in this permanent full-time opportunity based at South Brisbane.

The Manager - Clinical Coding will oversee and guide the coding workforce across all Mater facilities to ensure the delivery of top-tier coding services. This role involves assessing, planning, and implementing quality improvement processes to support our Coding teams in delivering high-quality outcomes for Mater and its facilities.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Director Information Management, you will be responsible but not limited to the following:

  • Lead the Clinical Coding Function for Mater Hospitals to deliver accurate and timely clinical coding
  • Optimise coding team operations through staffing, performance management, and training
  • Support clinical leaders in using coding data to enhance healthcare outcomes for Mater consumers
  • Foster a collaborative team culture and achieve strategic alignment in coding goals
  • Improve coding accuracy through trend analysis and benchmarking
  • Strengthen workforce capability with targeted educational programs
  • Manage operational budget effectively and improve revenue recovery
  • Ensure compliance with policies, regulations, and coding standards
  • Lead, develop and manage direct reports to deepen interprofessional integration
  • Collaborate with Private Revenue team to implement Strategy
  • Represent Mater at industry forums and promote Mater as a workplace of choice for coders
  • Work with direct reports to achieve high performance with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Lead Mater People to deliver safe and reliable health services through effective leadership and governance

About you

The ideal candidate will have Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or qualification in Clinical Coding with a minimum 5 years of Clinical Coding experience using ICD 10 AM and ACHI.

  • Experience managing complex teams and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Coding standards and AR-DRGs
  • Comprehensive understanding of privacy and medico-legal legislation
  • Eligible for membership of HIMAA, desirable 
  • Effective communication skills with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience in coding audits, staff training, and education programs
  • Strong managerial, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Desirable experience with 3M/Solventum Codefinder software
  • Knowledge of hospital reimbursement systems and health fund contracting
  • Analytical thinking, communication and collaboration
  • Time Management and technical proficiency
