Do you want to gain work experience in both public and private Hospital environments as well as Community and Outpatient services?

We have an exciting opportunity for Undergraduate Pharmacy Students to join our Clinical Services team and on-site Community pharmacy to work as a Pharmacy Technician on a casual basis. Shifts are predominantly in the evenings, weekends and public holidays, with additional weekday shifts offered in our Community and Outpatient Pharmacy and in the Hospital team from time to time.

Mater Health Services, South East Queensland comprises a unique collection of two public and four private hospitals caring for over 500,000 patients each year. Our South Brisbane campus contains the Mater Public Hospital, Mater Private Hospital, Mater Children’s Private and Mater Mother’s Public and Private Hospital.

In addition to clinical pharmacy services for all clinical areas across Mater hospitals, South East Queensland, Mater Pharmacy also provide traditional community pharmacy medicines and retail products to patients, visitors and staff. Salary range from $31.24 - $33.68 per hour (Operational Officer Level 2) plus casual loading, 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!

About the role

Clinical Services Team

You will work closely with hospital pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to deliver a safe, effective and high-quality level of pharmacy service to optimise outcomes for all patients and customers of Mater.

In the hospital dispensary you will be responsible for delivering a consistently high level of pharmacy service to all clinical areas, which will include:

  • Receiving requests for medication supply from all areas
  • Assembling and delivering dispensed medications
  • Monitoring and maintaining appropriate stock levels in the pharmacy and in clinical area imprest sites across the Mater campus
  • cold chain management of refrigerated and frozen medications
  • Answering phone calls from both internal and external customers and patients
  • Providing responsive customer-focused service

There may also be the opportunity to undertake training in our on-site Production facility which compounds a variety of sterile, non-sterile and cytotoxic medications.

Pharmacy students work various evening, weekend and public holiday shifts in the dispensary as well as having the opportunity for some additional weekday shifts especially during university breaks.

This role will be based predominantly at our South Brisbane campus with the opportunity to also work at Mater Springfield and Mater Redland from time to time.

Community and Outpatient Team

In this role you will be:

  • Supplying Medications to Specialty Clinics: You’ll assist in the medication supply for our outpatient clinics, including those catering to cystic fibrosis, dialysis, and eye clinic patients.
  • Liaising with Mater Mothers Hospital Patients: Supporting their maternity needs, including managing our unique breast pump hire service featuring the Medela Symphony Pump.
  • Assisting with our Community Vaccination Clinic: Our clinic services the public for their National Immunisation Program vaccination needs as-well-as servicing the pre-commencement and booster vaccination needs of our hospital staff, nurses and doctors.
  • Managing Dose Administration Aids: Ensuring our patients receive their medications accurately and on time by organising and managing dose administration aids.
  • Collaborating with Health Professionals: You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with our health professional colleagues, who also rely on our pharmacy for their personal medication needs.

This role will be based at our South Brisbane campus at our Raymond Terrace pharmacy (adjacent to Mater Public Hospital Brisbane) and/ or Vulture Street pharmacy (located within Mater Private Hospital Brisbane).

About you

To be considered for this role you must:

  • Be studying Bachelor of Pharmacy in 2025
  • Have a professional attitude, effective communication skills and a high level of attention to detail
  • Be willing to work evenings (from 5.00pm) on weeknights
  • Be willing to work full days (between 7.00am and 6.00pm) on weekends and public holidays
  • Be willing to work in a roster with other Pharmacy Students
  • The ability to work shifts at Mater South Brisbane and Mater Springfield is highly desirable
