About the role
Mater Private Hospital Rockhampton has an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Midwifery Unit Manager with strong leadership skills to join them on a permanent full-time basis.
As the Midwifery Unit Manager (MUM), you will provide operational/clinical management and leadership to the unit and provide a professional line management responsibility to nurses/midwives in the organisation. As the leader of this team, you will provide exceptional nursing management and be responsible for the clinical, resource management, education and research accountabilities of nursing within our Women’s Unit. Additionally, you will ensure the provision of best practice, quality and safety aspects of patient care.
Mater Private Hospital Rockhampton has been supporting the health of people living in Central Queensland for more than a century. Our heritage listed Kenmore building was purchased by the Sisters of Mercy in 1915 and opened as the first Mater Misericordiae Hospital north of Brisbane on 14 November in the same year.
Salary range: $71.42-$76.80 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As the Midwifery Unit Manager, you will:
- Provide operational/clinical management and leadership to the Unit in partnership with nursing/midwifery, surgical, medical, allied health and administrative teams
- Identifying and implementing opportunities for clinical service development and improvement in collaboration with the ADCS and General Manager
- Achieve optimal patient outcomes throughout the patient journey and continuum of care across Mater Health
- Maintain current knowledge and skills to ensure continued professional growth
- Developing, improving and monitoring systems and processes to ensure service is managed effectively and efficiently
- Leading by example to provide high level clinical care for our patients and mothers
- Utilising expert level communication strategies to guide the team in achieving the unit’s goals
This role will see you managing an established team with a great mix of new graduates and highly experienced Midwives, so you will need the ability to work with a diverse range of people.
About you
- Current general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Midwife with no restrictions
- Advanced clinical competency and the ability to maintain the highest standards of midwifery practice
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation and K2 Perinatal Training through an approved provider.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication and time management skills within a multidisciplinary team
- Competence to lead and manage a clinical team to optimise customer and organisational outcomes
- Ability to effectively manage a clinical cost centre
- Demonstrated application of the principles of risk management and quality improvement in a clinical environment
- Understanding and application of contemporary digital literacy and human resource management practices
- Strong leadership ability and experience, and the desire to promote the Mater mission and values to all staff
