About the role

Mater is looking for an Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the team on a Permanent Part time basis (16 hours/week) located at our South Brisbane campus. This role covers weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday) where you would be working closely with our multidisciplinary team in our 48 bed rehabilitation unit. 

The Occupational Therapy department at Mater Health provides public and private health services across a range of clinical specialties. These include - general medical, general surgical, orthopaedics, neurosciences, cancer care, lymphoedema, psychosocial, rehabilitation, neonatology and paediatrics. The team encompasses both Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants and deliver services within inpatient, outpatient, day therapy and telehealth settings.

(OP3) Salary range: $34.02 - $35.66 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

  • Working within agreed care plans, manage a caseload of delegated patients and provide a defined range of clinical screening assessments and treatments as prescribed and delegated by an allied health practitioner
  • Document in patient records and provide feedback to delegating allied health practitioner on session outcomes and changes to patient status
  • Patient care may also include:  facilitating patient programs and group treatment sessions, patient education on a defined topics, ordering and providing equipment for patients, assisting clinicians with clinical documentation, assisting patients with applications to access government and community support, assisting with personal care (e.g. showering and toileting), manual handling and transport of patients
  • Set up and maintain therapy rooms, equipment, resources and assistive devices, ensuring they are safe and available for individual and group programs
  • Support patients and allied health practitioners with telehealth set up and troubleshooting
  • Develop and maintain clinical resources and patient education materials
  • Recognise when input is required from the delegating allied health practitioner and act to obtain their involvement
  • Provide supervision, training and support to allied health assistant students and volunteers in delivery of clinical services

About you

  • Certificate IV or Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance would be highly regarded
  • Experience working in either a hospital, sub acute, disability or community health setting would be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role with clinical practice in allied health
  • Proven ability to work autonomously under a defined scope of delegated practice, in a complex and demanding work environment
  • Ability and willingness to work flexibly across the service as patient demands necessitate
