About the role

Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking multiple Paediatric Principal House Officer’s to join the team on a full time, maximum term basis for 12 months.

The Successful applicants will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive paediatric and neonatal inpatient services at Mater Hospital Springfield. This includes delivering family-centred developmental care to children and babies in the Paediatric Inpatient Unit (PIU) and the Neonatal Critical Care Unit (NCCU), as well as supporting babies and children across other areas of the organisation, including the emergency department, birthing suites, postnatal wards, and outpatient settings.

Salary range: $65.53 - $71.98 per hour plus 12% superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of comprehensive family-centred care to children and babies in Mater Hospital Springfield, under general paediatrician supervision.
  • Provide patient assessment and management in consultation with the treating paediatrician.
  • Attend acute and elective admissions under the team during rostered working hours, review of inpatients (PIU, postnatal ward and the NCCU) and participating in ward rounds with consultants.
  • Communicate with patients and their families, where appropriate, about the patient’s diagnosis and management in a culturally appropriate manner.
  • Participate in research activities or quality improvement of the clinical unit to which you are attached.
  • Provide supervision, teaching and support to junior medical staff and medical students and role modelling appropriate behaviour and attitude.

About you

Essential qualifications:

  • Registration as a medical practitioner without conditions, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation

Desired qualifications:

  • Undertaking or planning on undertaking Basic Paediatric training or General Paediatric advanced training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
  • Undertaking training with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners

Experience, Skills, Knowledge, and Qualities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary best practice methods within paediatrics and neonatology.
  • Clinical skills and knowledge at a level of registrar/PHO mater.org.au
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others in a team and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Culturally appropriate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to evaluate situations and to make objective judgements and decisions.
  • Reliability, integrity, commitment, compassion, and leadership qualities.
  • Experience in providing clinical education, research, quality improvement or clinical governance.
