About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic manager to join our leadership team at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane. You will be the Nurse Unit Manager of a newly formed Neuro/Cardiac stepdown ward.

This is a unique full-time and permanent opportunity. We are very open to applications from driven, emerging leaders with Cardiac experience!  A good understanding of public and private health care will be an advantage.

The 22 bed ward will consist of patients stepping down from our Coronary Care Unit as well as Neurology and Neurosurgical patients. 

Salary range: $71.42 - $76.80 per hour plus 12% superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

 What you’ll be doing 

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): 

  • Management of the Neuro/cardiac stepdown ward
  • Identifying and implementing opportunities for clinical service development and improvement in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Clinical Services
  • Developing, improving and monitoring systems and processes to ensure service is managed effectively and efficiently
  • Professional line management of the nursing team
  • Leading by example to provide high level clinical care for our patients
  • Utilising expert level communication strategies to guide the team in achieving the unit’s goals

This specialist team will see you managing a newly established team, so you will need the ability to work with a diverse range of people in a new ward. 

About you 

You will be a strong and engaging leader who drives innovation in your field; using evidence-based research to suggest new ways of doing things and take a positive and adaptive approach to embedding change.

Your broad understanding of both private and public health sectors, and your ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships, provides you with a foundation to grow your business in line with the strategic vision of the organisation.

In addition, you will also possess:

  • Relevant registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Extensive experience as a cardiac/neuro Nurse with knowledge of ACORN Standards
  • Previous experience as a Nurse Unit Manager in a similar environment
  • Experience in managing budget and KPIs
  • Experience with enhancing team performance, inspiring and motivating others
  • Post-graduate qualifications in management/specialty area
  • You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with growing a service
