About the role

Mater Private Hospital Townsville (MPHT) is seeking motivated Junior House Officers (JHOs) to join our team on a full-time basis. In this role, you will provide clinical care to patients under the supervision and direction of Consultants and Senior Medical Staff, while developing your skills in a supportive and dynamic environment.

JHOs at MPHT have the opportunity to rotate through a variety of departments including:

  • Cardiology
  • Emergency Department
  • General Medicine (Renal, Resp, Geri, Neuro, Gastro, Haem, Oncology)
  • General Surgery (Urology, Plastics, Gastrointestinal, Bariatric, Laparoscopic)
  • Intensive Care Unit
  • Neurosurgery
  • Orthopaedics Surgery
  • Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonates.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus 12% superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide medical care under the supervision and direction of senior medical staff.
  • Initiate and interpret clinical investigations
  • Liaise with team members including Allied Health and communicate with patients and their relatives as required
  • Prepare for and attend ward rounds.
  • Undertake an initial assessment of referred patients and discuss a formulated plan with the consultant and clinical coordinator (when applicable).
  • Participate in the discharge planning process and communicate with community providers.
  • Provide patient updates and changes to your consultant, clinical coordinator/team leader, nurse.
    The day-to-day review of patients and safe handover of patient care to after-hours staff.
  • Documentation of the patient’s progress in the patient record.
  • Participate in the discharge planning process and communicate with community providers through discharge letters, discharge summaries and other reports as required by the Hospital.
  • The provision of assistance in operating theatres

About you

To be considered for a position applicants are required to:  

  • M.B.B.S. or equivalent from a recognised University accredited by the Australian Medical Council, with relevant registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Be eligible for General or Provisional Registration with AHPRA
  • Have at least 1-year relevant clinical postgraduate experience
  • AMC1 and AMC2 and English certificate - for IMG overseas applicants
