About the role

Mater Refugee Health Service is currently looking for a Clinical Nurse to join the team on a Permanent Part-Time basis working 16 hours per week located at our South Brisbane campus.

Mater Integrated Refugee Health Service Nurses provide specialised nursing assessments, immunisation services, care coordination, health advocacy and health literacy to individuals arriving in Brisbane under the Humanitarian Settlement Program in a variety of settings, including General Practices across Brisbane North and South, the Mater Hospital Brisbane and home environments.

Salary range: $54.44 - $58.30 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing safe, individualised, compassionate care throughout the patient journey and continuum of care, integrating safety and quality frameworks and Person-Centred Care approach of caring for each patient’s psychological, social, emotional, spiritual, cultural and physical care needs.
  • Demonstrating advanced clinical expertise, clinical critical thinking and problem-solving skills and knowledge of the Australian healthcare system and management of patients of refugee background
  • Providing expert clinical leadership in evidence-based, person-centred nursing interventions, planning and coordination of care including referrals to health and other services, patient education and other health promotion activities, and role model to and collaborate with the healthcare team.
  • Conducting systematic, holistic assessments of patients’ health needs using an evidence-based framework which is grounded in the social determinants of health and Principles of Primary Health Care (PHC) and with an understanding of the torture and trauma experience and cultural explanatory models to provide the highest standards of supportive care and care coordination

About you

  • Current AHPRA nursing registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
  • Current open drivers’ license
  • Immunisation Program Nurse qualification (or currently enrolled in course) and evidence of up to date continuing professional development in immunisation
  • Minimum 3 years’ clinical experience in a relevant specialist nursing field: refugee health/ primary care/ rehabilitation/ disability/ paediatrics/ geriatrics/ chronic disease/ mental health
  • Previous experience in primary care, and prior experience and training in triage highly regarded
  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamic political environment in which refugee health is embedded
