About the role

Catherine’s House (CHMBU) is a world-class, perinatal, and infant mental health integrated model of care, providing both inpatient and outpatient services to public and private consumers.  The service has an extensive multidisciplinary team with allied health, administration, peer workers, psychiatry, general practitioners and private practitioners. The service was opened in April 2023 and has emerged as a comprehensive service, providing specialist inpatient and outpatient care for families in the perinatal period.

We are currently seeking a General Practitioner to work maximum term 12 month contract 8 hours per week at our South Brisbane campus.

Salary range: $87.25 - $98.18 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing clinical care to recognise, diagnose and manage physical and mental health disorders as part of a wider speciality perinatal mental health service with outpatient and inpatient care for parents and infants across Catherines House
  • To identify and manage acute risk, to be aware of escalation pathways as part of our broader multidisciplinary care team and facilitate medical leadership alongside of the multidisciplinary care team
  • Facilitate care that is family centred, attachment and trauma informed
  • Collaborate with Mater Mothers colleagues to identify and manage infant feeding issues in the dyad as well as sleep and settling challenges in a service for families in a perinatal period
  • Lead the medical contribution, within a wider multidisciplinary team, to develop, implement and evaluate clinical activities to continually improve the care in the perinatal period where there is risk with severe and complex mental health problems
  • Providing compassionate care to meet the needs of families presenting to Catherines House including the management of infant feeding and wellbeing interventions and care

About you

  • Demonstrated high level of organisational, communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills and the ability to apply these to contribute to innovation and change within the service unit regarding service delivery and improvement opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical services in mental health practice with a high degree of independence and autonomy

Mandatory

  • A MBBS and FRACCGP

Desirable

  • Experience with early post-partum challenges with both parent and baby
