The Department of Anaesthesia at Mater Health Services is seeking a number of Provisional Fellows to join them in 2026 for either 6 or 12 months. The positions available commence in August 2026.
These positions offer a supported transition to Consultant level practice to ease the transition to independent specialist practice.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
The Department of Anaesthesia at the Mater Hospital Brisbane offers experience in a wide range of tertiary anaesthesia settings. Mater Mothers Hospital is a premier women’s health facility and Queensland’s largest maternity care provider, delivering more than 11,000 babies every year. Mater serves as a referral centre for complex obstetric and Maternal-Fetal Medicine cases and is also the state’s largest provider of publicly funded gynaecology services.
Successful applicants will work in Obstetric (elective and emergency), and also have the opportunity to gain exposure to the majority of surgical subspecialties. We do not offer exposure to Paediatric, Cardiac or Neuroanaesthesia.
The role provides the ability to extend independent practice but with designated supervision, provide bed-side and formal teaching and to become involved in other aspects of professional practice such as Continuing Medical Education and management.
About you
These Provisional Fellowship positions are accredited for the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists Training Program, and would suit trainees preparing for life as a generalist anaesthetist, or those wishing to further their skills and knowledge in Obstetric anaesthesia.
These roles are intended for those who have completed the requirements of Advanced Training in the ANZCA training program, though consideration would be given to doctors accessing ANZCA fellowship via the Specialist International Medical Graduate process.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- MBBS or equivalent level medical qualification that is recognised by the Medical board of Australia
- Current registration with/or eligible for registration with the Medical board of Australia through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a medical practitioner
- Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) Final examination at the commencement of employment (or equivalent) as a minimum
- At least 4 years anaesthesia training at the commencement of employment
- A demonstrated interest and capability in providing high quality care to obstetric patients
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated achievements in research, audit and quality improvement.
- A commitment to supervising and educating junior medical and non -medical staff
- A high level of professionalism, integrity and ethical practice
