Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for multiple Orthopaedic Principal House Officers to join us in a maximum term, full time role from 2026 for 12 months. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. As Mater’s newest public hospital, this state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds, ICU, maternity, emergency, and surgical services, it is set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.
Salary range: $65.53 – $71.98 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Attend Outpatient Department (OPD) and Operating Theatre (OT) sessions as scheduled.
- Conduct patient examinations, and arrange investigations and treatments, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Perform daily reviews of inpatients and reassess based on clinical condition.
- Communicate significant patient updates to the Consultant promptly.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely medical records.
- Collaborate closely with nursing staff and Allied Health professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Arrange investigations, treatments, and discharges under consultant supervision.
- Assist in procedures and outpatient clinics, developing clinical and technical skills under supervision.
- Participate in clinical meetings, education sessions, and training relevant to the role.
- Provide after-hours on-call support as rostered, sharing duties with fellow PHOs.
- Complete discharge summaries and correspondence promptly to ensure continuity of care.
- Support and provide clinical teaching to Senior House Officers (SHOs).
- Adhere to infection control guidelines to prevent the spread of infection.
- Contribute to audits and quality improvement initiatives within the Acute Surgical area.
About you
Registration as a medical practitioner without conditions, with the Medical Board of Queensland. In approved circumstances, eligibility for registration, with conditions, as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Queensland which must be produced at the commencement of employment.
