Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for a Clinical Midwife. Due to the unique circumstances surrounding the opening of the new hospital, this position will initially be structured as an Antenatal Clinic-based role, part time (32hrs/FN). This maximum term arrangement will remain in place from 01/12/25 until 12/04/26 until, at which point the role will transition into a permanent full time, Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) Clinical Midwife position from the 13/04/26 when the hospital is set to open. This hybrid contract reflects the evolving service needs and ensures continuity of care during the hospital’s establishment phase.

Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. As Mater’s newest public hospital, this state-of-the-art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds, ICU, maternity, emergency and surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Salary range: $54.44 - $58.30 per hour plus 12% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

The Clinical Midwife (CM) for Midwifery Group Practice at Springfield Mater Hospital involves providing comprehensive patient care with a focus on physical, emotional and spiritual needs in a safe and patient-centred manner. The CM will lead in delivering high-quality care, utilising advanced clinical skills to coordinate care, collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and ensure excellent patient outcomes.

  • Provide high-quality patient care with advanced clinical skills for optimal outcomes
  • Conduct systematic patient assessments and implement evidence-based interventions
  • Collaborate with health professionals and community services in care delivery
  • Establish care plans and priorities in consultation with patients
  • Act as a patient advocate and ensure informed consent
  • Demonstrate leadership and mentorship for excellence in patient care
  • Coordinate activities to optimise resources and integrate new concepts into practice
  • Promote safety, infection control, and confidentiality in care delivery
  • Actively participate in professional development and research initiatives
  • Foster teamwork, communication, and collaboration within the healthcare team to maximise patient outcomes and support individual healthcare decision-making

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have a current registration with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board to practice as a Registered Nurse/Midwife and a minimum of three years full time equivalent clinical experience in area of specialty.

  • Postgraduate qualification in relevant specialty (Desirable)
  • Ensure patient needs are prioritised and involved in decision-making processes
  • Organise tasks to contribute to organisational goals and hold oneself and others accountable
  • Empower and develop team members, fostering a collaborative culture
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, demonstrating active listening and conflict resolution skills
  • Analyse data, develop innovative solutions, and maintain a focus on continuous improvement
  • Understand business drivers, apply financial concepts to decision-making, and adapt to industry changes
  • Embrace and facilitate change, guide others through transitions, and demonstrate self-awareness and emotional management
