Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for General Surgery Principal House Officers to join us in a maximum term, full time role for 12 months in 2026. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. As Mater’s newest public hospital, this state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds, ICU, maternity, emergency, and surgical services, it is set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Salary range: $65.53 – $71.98 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Surgical PHOs are expected to provide surgical care to patients within the Mater Adult General Surgery Department.

The successful applicant should be competent at history taking, physical examination, ordering and interpreting appropriate investigations, implementing management plans and conducting minor surgical procedures with consultant supervision.

You should be aware of quality and safety practices relevant to a Surgical Department.

About you

To be considered for the position applicants should have:

  • General medical registration with AHPRA, or at least 12 months of practice in Australia or a region of Competent Authority as determined by AHPRA
  • At least 2 years postgraduate experience (ideally 3)
  • Experience within a surgical department in an acute hospital setting.
