About the role

Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Clinical Nurse - Stomal Therapy & Wound Management to join us in a permanent, part time (0.6 FTE) role. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state-of-the-art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

As a Clinical Nurse at Mater Health Services, you will deliver comprehensive clinical care that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of each patient in a safe, effective, and patient-centred way. In this clinical leadership role, you will support and lead the delivery of high-quality care, using your advanced clinical skills and knowledge to coordinate care, collaborate with the nursing and interdisciplinary teams and communicate effectively to achieve outstanding patient outcomes.

At Mater, Clinical Nurses practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Standards, relevant legislation, and professional codes, ensuring evidence-based, safe, and ethical care. You will be accountable for your own practice and contribute to the ongoing excellence of our healthcare services.

Salary range: $56.08 - $60.05 per hour plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900+access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

You will provide specialised nursing care in wound management and stomal therapy, delivering evidence-based assessment, planning and evaluation of patient care to support optimal patient outcomes through best practice clinical interventions.

You will also provide clinical leadership when delegated by the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) demonstrating professionalism and accountability in all aspects of your practice.

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care for patients with acute and chronic wounds and specialist stomal therapy needs, including pre- and post-operative support
  • Deliver patient and family education on wound care, stoma management, and self-management post-discharge
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and community services to ensure seamless, holistic and patient-centred care planning
  • Monitor, document and communicate clinical progress accurately and in a timely manner to support optimal health outcomes and discharge planning
  • Implement evidence-based nursing interventions, initiate appropriate referrals and participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits to enhance service delivery
  • Provide expert clinical leadership, guidance and mentorship to nursing staff and across disciplines, fostering professional development and best practice standards
  • Maintain infection prevention and control standards while demonstrating advanced clinical skills to deliver high-quality care
  • Advocate for patients by ensuring informed consent, addressing communication barriers sensitively and supporting dignified end-of-life care when required
  • Apply evidence-based research to clinical practice and contribute to the development of innovative models of care to improve continuity and patient outcomes
  • Exhibit values-based leadership, accountability and a strong patient focus to drive service improvements and optimise the patient experience

About you

The successful candidate must hold a current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions and have extensive demonstrated experience in wound management and/or stomal therapy.

  • Postgraduate qualification or working towards certification in Wound or Stomal Therapy Nursing (highly desirable)
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and problem-solving skills
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills within a multidisciplinary environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to plan and manage wound care needs of the patient discharging from hospital with a wound or stoma
  • Participation in education and staff development
  • The ability to plan and manage priorities and workloads
