About the role
Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking a dedicated Assistant in Nursing – Perioperative Service, working part-time (32 hours per week) in a permanent position within our dynamic and fast-paced procedural environment.

Salary range: $32.20 - $36.35 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
In this vital support role, you will ensure the safe, timely and effective reprocessing of reusable medical devices used within Mater’s perioperative and endoscopy services.
- Carry out cleaning, disinfecting and sterilisation tasks in line with Mater policies, AS5369 and accepted infection-prevention principles.
- Accurately identify devices, use appropriate agents and follow correct reprocessing procedures.
- Communicate effectively with the Nurse Manager, Team Leader and wider perioperative team to meet urgent operational needs.
- Contribute to audits, continuous quality improvement initiatives, and maintain a strong focus on safety, PPE use and hazard reporting.
About you
You will be a reliable, team-focused individual who thrives in a high-standards clinical environment and is committed to supporting surgical and procedural services through safe scope processing.
You will also have:
- Certificate in Sterilising Technology (or working toward completion).
- Demonstrated experience in scope processing within a hospital or large organisation.
- Sound understanding of contemporary sterilisation and reprocessing practices and AS5369.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and Mater’s Mission & Values.
- Understanding of WHS requirements and consistent use of PPE.
- Year 10 Certificate or equivalent.
- Flexibility to work across a rotating roster.
