About the role
Mater Pharmacy is seeking an experienced and strategic Commercial Manager to join our Pharmacy Leadership Team. Reporting to the Director, Mater Pharmacy, this senior role is responsible for driving strong commercial, financial and operational performance across Mater Pharmacy services.
Mater Pharmacy was established in 1930 and is a unique hospital pharmacy service in Australia offering private and public clinical services, sterile and non-sterile compounding, clinical trials, academic teaching and community pharmacy services.
You will provide high quality financial leadership, analysis and insight to support decision-making, sustainability and growth. In collaboration with the Director, Mater Pharmacy you will influence strategic and operational planning, oversee pharmacy commercial operations, and support the identification and delivery of service growth and business development opportunities.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
Commercial, financial and operational leadership
- Lead financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis for Mater Pharmacy.
- Maintain strong financial governance, controls, compliance and risk management frameworks.
- Deliver meaningful analytics, dashboards and forward-looking performance insights.
- Support pricing, funding, revenue optimisation, business cases and capital planning.
Service delivery and improvement
- Oversee key pharmacy operational functions including billing, licensing and revenue management.
- Implement changes arising from the Community Pharmacy Agreement.
- Drive service improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality and financial performance.
- Review systems, resourcing and structures to optimise service delivery and cost effectiveness.
- Support audit activities and implementation of outcomes.
Leadership and collaboration
- Partner with Pharmacy senior leaders to enhance commercial capability and financial literacy through the department.
- Build strong internal and external relationships to enable service development.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement aligned with Mater’s Mission and Values.
About you
You are a commercially astute leader with a strong understanding of financial management in complex service environments. You bring a strategic mindset, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to translate data into meaningful insights that drive performance.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, commerce, economics or a related discipline.
- Eligibility for membership of a recognised Australian accounting body (CPA/CA).
- MBA or other relevant postgraduate qualifications (highly regarded).
- Significant senior-level health, pharmacy or other relevant field experience in financial and budget management, reporting, governance and controls.
- Demonstrated experience providing executive-level advice on pricing, funding models, budgeting and economic evaluation.
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Knowledge of healthcare and pharmacy funding models (desirable).
- Strong ability to engage operational teams and deliver outcomes through collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
