Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Speech Pathology Team Leader to join us in a Permanent, Full-time role. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Salary range: $64.64 - $69.55 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As the Speech Pathology Team Leader, you will provide advanced clinical expertise, operational leadership, and strategic direction to a high-performing team delivering speech pathology services. You will oversee service delivery across inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring that care is family-centred, evidence-based, and aligned with Mater’s values of compassion, integrity and excellence. Your role will balance hands-on clinical practice, professional supervision, service innovation, and workforce leadership. You will guide the development and implementation of contemporary clinical practices, drive quality improvement, and foster a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing high-level clinical leadership and expertise in the management of neonates and paediatric patients with complex feeding and communication disorders
  • Leading and managing the speech pathology team, including staff supervision, professional development, workforce planning and performance review
  • Translating strategic and departmental priorities into operational outcomes through innovative models of care
  • Driving research, service improvement and quality initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and professional practice
  • Providing authoritative clinical advice to senior leaders and multidisciplinary teams on service delivery, professional standards and clinical care
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships across Mater’s allied health, neonatal, paediatric and multidisciplinary teams
  • Fostering a culture of collaboration, professional growth and accountability within the team

About you

You are a highly experienced and motivated Speech Pathologist who combines advanced clinical skills with a passion for leadership, innovation and service excellence. You thrive in complex environments, lead with empathy and professionalism, and are committed to achieving outstanding outcomes for patients, families and your team.

You will bring:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech Pathology
  • Certified Practising Speech Pathologist status and membership with Speech Pathology Australia
  • Extensive experience working with neonates and paediatric patients with complex feeding and/or communication disorders
  • Advanced skills in neonatal and paediatric feeding management, including experience in Family and Infant Neurodevelopmental Education (FINE), Sequential Oral Sensory (S.O.S) feeding approaches, and dysphagia management
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage clinical services, including operational management, workforce planning, and team development
  • Proven experience in driving quality improvement, innovation and service redesign
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster collaboration, influence outcomes, and advocate for your team and profession
  • Eligibility for a Medicare provider number and a current Blue Card

Postgraduate qualifications in leadership or management will be highly regarded, as will experience in tracheostomy management and instrumental swallow studies (e.g. VFSS) within paediatric or neonatal services.
