Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking an experienced Manager of Anaesthetic Services to lead and coordinate the anaesthetic services model for our newest hospital. This is a key leadership role supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe and sustainable anaesthetic services within a VMO fee-for-service (FFS) model, providing 24/7 on-call coverage.

Based at our Springfield campus, this role will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.  

Reporting to the General Manager, this role will be the central coordination, communication and escalation point for VMO anaesthetists partnering with Mater Hospital Springfield.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

  • Oversee and coordinate the Mater Hospital Springfield anaesthetist model, including:
    • Workforce planning and scheduling
    • Contracting and onboarding
    • Billing and service model governance
  • Act as the primary point of contact for VMO anaesthetists, fostering strong, collaborative relationships
  • Support the development and execution of the anaesthetic services strategy in line with Mater’s clinical and operational priorities
  • Manage communication, issue resolution and escalation related to anaesthetic services
  • Lead talent pipeline development and support recruitment of VMO anaesthetists as services grow
  • Work closely with hospital leadership, clinical stakeholders and corporate teams to ensure service continuity and quality outcomes

About you

You will bring strong operational and relationship management experience, ideally within a healthcare environment working closely with private specialists.

  • Experience as a Practice Manager or in a similar role, preferably within private or mixed-model healthcare settings
  • Demonstrated experience working with medical specialists, VMOs or private practice groups
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to negotiate, influence and build trusted relationships
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
