About the role

Mater Private Hospital Brisbane is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant in Nursing (CSSD) to join the team within the Central Sterilising Department (CSSD) on a permanent full-time and casual basis. The successful candidate will be required to work on a rotational 24/7 roster which includes night shifts, weekends and public holidays as well as holds or currently enrolled in a Certificate III in Sterilisation.

As the Assistant in Nursing you will perform all operational tasks required to provide efficient and effective sterile service within the Mater Private Health Services. The position reports directly to the Nurse Unit Manager and indirectly to the Nursing Director and Director of Nursing.

The Mater nursing team provides the highest level of specialist care to patients, their families, carers and visitors. Our team of industry professionals work together as a cohesive and collaborative unit, going above and beyond to provide an exceptional level of care and deliver the highest level of clinical standards for the patient and the unit.

Salary range: $33.20 - $36.35 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will support the efficient delivery of sterile services that underpin safe surgical and clinical care by:

  • Performing operational sterile services tasks to support theatres and clinical areas
  • Decontaminating, assembling, sterilising, and distributing medical instruments and equipment
  • Supporting hospital quality, risk management, and continuous improvement systems
  • Working closely with nursing, theatre, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Maintaining compliance with workplace health and safety standards
  • Assisting with loan set processing (highly desirable)

About you

You are a motivated and reliable team member who takes pride in contributing to patient safety and service excellence, and you will bring:

  • A completed or currently enrolled Certificate III in Sterilisation Services (mandatory)
  • Previous experience in sterile services within a hospital or large organisation
  • A strong understanding of infection control and best-practice sterile processing
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience with risk management and continuous quality improvement systems
  • A commitment to workplace health and safety
