About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane Perioperative Department is currently seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse to work within our Recovery (PACU) team. This position will be permanent full time, 38 hours per week.

Salary range: $54.45 - $58.30 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Our Perioperative Clinical Nurses provide additional leadership and advanced clinical competency to our Nursing Team. You will use your extensive experience to provide essential support to the Nurse Manager in activities designed to aid the sustainability of the department and assist with the progression of service improvement. You will have a keen interest in Quality Improvement with a focus on but not limited to Leadership, Risk Management, Audits, Infection Control and the promotion of exceptional service provision.

Whilst displaying the highest level of clinical standards for the unit you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating PACU workflow to ensure safe, timely patient care
  • Team Leader/ In-charge capability and ability to escalate clinical and operational issues appropriately
  • Demonstrating advanced clinical expertise in anaesthetics and PACU and knowledge of procedures and management of patients to achieve optimal patient outcomes throughout the patient journey and continuum of care
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team environment
  • Promoting and contributing to professional standards, patient safety, clinical education in regard to evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrating advanced clinical expertise and knowledge of procedures and the management of patients seeking outstanding care
  • Assist/Supporting the Nurse Unit Manager in implementing strategies to ensure that quality and risk management are integrated into service provision
  • Maintaining current knowledge and skills to ensure continued professional growth

About you

You will be driven by a challenging yet rewarding environment where you can bring your energy and experience to this dynamic area.

  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Availability to work across all shifts, weekends and on call
  • ALS and PALS Certification desirable
  • A strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to role model and promote the Mater
  • Must have more than 3 years’ experience in PACU
  • Obstetrics and paediatrics experience is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to operate both in a team environment and autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning and strong listening, negotiation and decision-making skills
  • Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively alongside the Nurse Unit Manager with rostering, quality and risk management
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Commitment to ensuring the levels of service is always delivered to patients at all times
  • Extensive knowledge of current National ANZCA standards as well as ACORN Standards and their alignment with the Perioperative Department

While not essential, applicants who currently have or are studying towards a tertiary qualification within this clinical specialty would be highly regarded.
