Mater Research are looking for a Senior Research Officer to join the Perinatal Medicine team! This permanent, full-time role will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

What you’ll be doing

The Post Doctoral Fellow in Perinatal Medicine will lead and contribute to delivery of high-quality research outputs of the Genesis group. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Writing and submission of scientific papers, preparing presentations, funding applications (e.g. MRFF/NHMRC, Gates Foundation, Wellcome Trust etc) under the supervision of Prof Kumar.
  • Identifying suitable funding opportunities relevant to the Genesis group’s research focus. materresearch.org.au
  • Understanding and communicating the group’s performance and impact, through analysis and reporting of research performance metrics.

Supporting Genesis group members to:

  • Identify and respond to funding opportunities including external grant schemes partnering with industry or stakeholders
  • Proactively consider pathways to achieve research translation and/or commercialisation
  • Supporting nomination of group researchers for key awards and academic titles.
  • Helping coordinate research academic forums, meetings and events, including training and networking opportunities relevant to the Genesis group
  • Working with the group’s manager and with other Mater Research professional support services teams to ensure the group’s research activities occur seamlessly and meets all compliance requirements.

About you

 You will hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral level degree, in a health or medical research discipline (preferably maternal/child health) with at least five years of postdoctoral experience. You will also meet the below criteria:

  • Proven ability to write and publish in high-impact journals, prepare reports, and deliver presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing competitive grant and fellowship applications (e.g., NHMRC, MRFF) and strong understanding of national/international research funding schemes.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, set priorities, meet deadlines, and provide mentorship and support to junior researchers.
  • Experience building collaborations with academic, industry, government, and community partners to advance research initiatives.
