About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking a compassionate and Senior Social Worker to join Catherine’s House on a permanent full-time basis.

With one in five mums and up to one in ten fathers experiencing depression, anxiety and other mental health issues before or after the birth of a child, this new facility will triple the number of public beds in Queensland from 4 to 12 for families in need of perinatal mental health support.

Salary range: $64.64 - $69.55 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

The Senior Social Worker is part of the team at Catherine’s House for Mothers Babies and Families which is an integrated centre for infant and perinatal mental health based at Mater South Brisbane. The position is responsible for clinical or corporate leadership across Catherines House and is accountable for the clinical quality of the service. The incumbent is responsible for the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of the service.

  • Demonstrated High Level clinical assessment, intervention and coordination of care in the inpatient unit as well as across all Services in Catherines House
  • To facilitate advocacy and safeguarding of families impacted by Domestic and Family Violence and where child protection concerns exist
  • Lead the Social Work care including provision of clinical practice supervision and supporting the wider Catherines House Social Worker and Services
  • Deliver high quality early intervention and prevention clinical services to infants, children, and their families, who are identified requiring support and who would benefit from Social Work engagement 
  • Manage the recruitment, training, professional development and supervision of Parent Aide Unit Team Members.
  • Manage the recruitment, training, professional development and supervision of Parent Aide volunteers.
  • The incumbent will have a high degree of independence requiring minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated high level of knowledge and skills in engaging and working with volunteers, babies, children and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide timely high-quality psychosocial assessments, formulation and intervention planning, in partnership with families and the wider Catherines Hosue Teams
  • Ability to identify risk and respond in a timely way to ensure safety of all involved. 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply established principles to routine and complex situations and demonstrated ability to make independent corporate and clinical judgement to more complex decision making

About you

  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent in Nursing, Psychology or Social Work
  • Registration with the relevant professional body, or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Unless otherwise exempt, successful attainment of a ‘working with children’s check’ (Blue Card), prior to appointment
