About the role
Mater Health Brisbane and Mater Clarence Street are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide specialist input in the care of Youth Mental Health and Addictions for young people attending Clarence Street.
This is a leave coverage position working 16 hours per week from 8 January 2024 to 8 January 2025.
The role will include working with young people presenting for residential withdrawal services and those accessing our new longer term therapeutic residential program which will aim to provide a safe and supportive residential environment for young people to experience life without alcohol and/or other drugs. The program will provide a structured holistic program which includes individual support and a skill based group program as well as recreational and educational/vocational activities.
Other services at Clarence Street include a specialist youth work service that can outreach to individual young people and a Day Program where young people can drop in and access support in a creative and safe environment. Clarence Street also provides parent psycho-education and support, to individuals, couples and via groups.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
You will be required to:
- Contribute to the goal of safe high-quality care is delivered to every client every time
- Provide high quality assessment, formulation and management for clients referred to the program
- Contribute to medical governance specific to the service
- Involvement in the evidence-based identification and prioritisation of clinical practice improvements that ensure translation of research and evidence into practice
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to maximise treatment efficiency and sharing of skills

- Contribution to effective day to day decision making on operational service delivery
About you
You will be an experienced leader who drives innovation in your field; using evidence based research to embed best practice principals. Your positive and adaptive approach will contribute to building and growing the service.
Other skills and responsibilities include:
- Registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA
- Fellow of RANZCP
- Advanced training in Child Psychiatry (desirable but not mandatory)
- Comprehensive understanding of public and private health systems
- Expert knowledge of contemporary models of care for young people
- Data analysis and research interpretation
- Service improvement methodologies
