About the role
The Mater Public Services Administration team has an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Senior Administration Officer to join our team on a maximum term basis, part time (20 hours per week) until June 2026 within the Day Procedure Unit at our South Brisbane campus.
This is a pivotal frontline role that anchors the smooth operation of a busy clinical environment, supporting patient flow, operational efficiency, and high-quality care delivery. You will work collaboratively with clinical and administrative teams to ensure every patient experience is seamless, professional, and patient-centred care.
The successful candidate will be available to work Monday to Friday, with shifts scheduled between 6:30am and 7:00pm.
Salary range: $39.79 - $44.25 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Administration Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting clinical staff and ensuring the efficient delivery of administrative services within the Day Procedure Unit. You will coordinate patient activity, act as a key point of contact, and contribute to a well-organised, patient-focused service.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating patient bookings, admissions, discharges, and cancellations, ensuring accurate and timely data entry into hospital information systems
- Welcoming patients and visitors, verifying patient details, ensuring documentation is complete, and resolving enquiries or issues professionally
- Overseeing daily administrative functions, including managing waiting lists and supporting optimal revenue and throughput
- Liaising closely with nursing and medical staff to support patient flow, documentation, and unit operations
- Identifying opportunities to improve administrative processes and enhance efficiency within the unit
- Ensuring strict adherence to confidentiality, privacy, and hospital policies and procedures
- Working collaboratively within a small administrative team to ensure all daily operational requirements are met in a fast-paced day procedure environment
About you
You are an experienced, organised, and proactive administrative professional who thrives in a busy healthcare setting and is passionate about delivering outstanding customer service.
You will bring:
- Proven senior administrative experience, ideally within a hospital, day surgery, or healthcare environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and confidence using hospital information systems
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology and private health insurance processes
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities within tight timeframes
- A patient-centred approach aligned with Mater’s Mission, Values, and behavioural standards
