About the role

Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Senior Social Worker – Integrated Child Protection and Domestic and Family Violence Specialist to join us in a permanent, full time role. Our Springfield campus – opening early 2026is Mater’s first new public hospital in over 60 years. This state-of-the-art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds, ICU, maternity, emergency and surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.  

The Senior Social Work role within Mater’s Advocacy and Protection (MAP) Unit offers specialised clinical consultation, education, and advice to Mater staff statewide, supporting consumers experiencing or at risk of violence, abuse and neglect.  

Based primarily at Mater Springfield Hospital, with some time spent at Mater South Brisbane working with the MAP unit, this role contributes to coordinated, evidence-based care across Mater’s health services by providing advocacy, facilitating information sharing, delivering targeted training, managing relevant data and policies and fostering strategic partnerships to enhance safety and wellbeing across the lifespan. 

Salary range: $64.64 - $69.55 per hour (HP4) plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Social Worker in the MAP Unit, you will lead clinical and service improvements to support patient safety and wellbeing in Child Protection and Domestic and Family Violence across Mater’s health services.

  • Provide expert clinical advice and implement legislative changes under relevant Child Protection and Domestic Violence Acts.
  • Lead complex case reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to service development and efficient care delivery.
  • Support information sharing, referral pathways, and integrated service responses across multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
  • Deliver education and training to build staff capability in recognising and responding to abuse and neglect.
  • Foster collaborative partnerships with stakeholders to promote coordinated care and a learning culture.
  • Contribute to clinical research and the establishment of a centre of excellence in advocacy and protection.
  • Ensure compliance with Mater’s behavioural standards, safeguarding policies, and relevant legislation.
  • Support achievement of team KPIs and organisational priorities related to financial stewardship and service quality.

About you

You will use your specialised social work qualifications and experience to provide expert clinical practice, leadership and education in child protection, DV and related areas within a healthcare setting.

  • Hold current social work qualifications eligible for AASW membership, with postgraduate qualifications desirable.
  • Valid Blue Card is mandatory.
  • Apply independent clinical judgment using psychosocial and risk assessment frameworks in child protection and domestic and family violence cases.
  • Deliver high-quality clinical services across the lifespan, integrating complex, trauma-informed practice within a health context.
  • Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to students and less experienced social workers.
  • Develop and deliver education and training to build staff capability in specialised MAP unit areas.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, data collection and reporting with attention to detail.
  • Lead and contribute to quality and service improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, carers and external stakeholders.
