Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for a Social Work Team Lead (HP4) to join us in a Permanent, Full-time capacity. Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

The Social Work department will support both public and private patients across the co-located Mater Hospital Springfield and Mater Private Hospital Springfield, and will service a range of specialties such as medical, surgical, ICU, maternity, and emergency.

Salary range: $64.64 - $69.55 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As the Social Work Team Lead, you will combine advanced clinical practice with leadership and service development responsibilities to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across Mater Springfield. 

You will guide and support a dedicated team of social workers and social work assistants to provide safe, innovative, and efficient clinical services, aligned with Mater’s mission, vision, and values. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the delivery of social work services across Mater Hospital Springfield
  • Managing a clinical workload and supporting equitable distribution of caseloads across the social work team
  • Offering clinical leadership, supervision, and mentorship to social workers, students, and social work assistants
  • Providing advanced clinical assessment, counselling, and intervention for patients and families
  • Leading the development, review and implementation of clinical practices, procedures and protocols within the social work team
  • Driving quality improvement, and service innovation within the social work team
  • Building strong partnerships across disciplines to ensure coordinated, person-centred care
  • Representing social work perspectives in multidisciplinary discussions and strategic planning

About you

You will bring:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification and eligibility for AASW membership
  • Extensive experience in an acute health setting, including in the hospital setting.
  • Highly developed clinical assessment, counselling, and case management skills
  • Strong leadership in quality improvement, and service design and review
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop social work practitioners
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills within multidisciplinary teams
  • (Desirable) AASW Accredited Mental Health Social Worker status
