Mater Pharmacy is seeking applications for Pharmacy Technicians to join us in a permanent full-time or part-time role.

Based predominantly at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. As Mater’s first new public hospital in over 60 years, this state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With 174 public beds, ICU, maternity, emergency and surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Mater Pharmacy will provide a clinical service to all inpatient areas and outpatient clinics, as well as serving the local community’s health needs so this represents a fantastic opportunity to make a positive contribution to the health and wellbeing of this community and to contribute to a strong, unified, inter-professional Clinical Services team at Mater.

Salary range: $34.87 - $36.55 per hour (OO3) plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

As a Pharmacy Technician at Mater, you will play a vital role in supporting the safe and efficient delivery of pharmacy services. Working under the supervision of a pharmacist and senior technician, you’ll assist with dispensing, stock management, and customer service to ensure high-quality care and optimal outcomes for all patients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pharmacists in delivering safe, effective, and high-quality pharmacy services
  • Dispensing and assembling medications accurately and efficiently and ensuring medications are available in a timely manner in the right location
  • Providing responsive, customer-focused service to patients and clinical staff
  • Monitoring and maintaining stock levels and performing stock control duties
  • Ensuring compliance with pharmacy policies, procedures, and legislation
  • Participating in quality and service improvement activities
  • Contributing to a clean, organised, and safe work environment

This is a rotational position work across various roles including dispensary, outpatient services, and imprest medication supply. Specific duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Dispensing, assembling and delivering medications
  • Customer service and taking payments from patients collecting medications
  • Assisting to monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels in the pharmacy
  • Cold chain management of refrigerated and frozen medications
  • Answering phone calls from both internal and external customers and patients
  • Various operational and administrative tasks including prescription management and billing
  • Scheduled restocking of imprest medication to expected levels in a variety of clinical and procedural areas - receiving, picking, delivering and putting away stock in a timely and accurate manner
  • Management of expiry dates, stock rotation and product availability
  • Handling packages up to 12kg

These roles will be based primarily at Springfield, with some positions being rotational between Springfield and South Brisbane and/or Redland in order to meet operational needs. All roles will have the opportunity to also work at our tertiary referral and private hospitals at South Brisbane and/or Redland for training and development.  You will also engage with and be supported by all other Mater Pharmacy teams including Inventory Management, Clinical Trials, Medicines Information, Community Services and the Production Unit.

About you

You are an organised and motivated person with a passion for delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality pharmacy support. You take pride in your attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a busy healthcare environment. You demonstrate reliability, integrity, and a genuine commitment to providing excellent service to patients, carers, and clinical teams.

You will have:

  • Commenced or completed a Certificate II or III in Hospital or Community Pharmacy, or equivalent qualification (those who are willing to commence the course will also be considered)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all tasks
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Alignment with Mater’s Mission, Vision, and Values

Other highly desirable traits:

  • Previous experience in a pharmacy, hospital, or healthcare setting
  • Proficiency in stock control and medication dispensing processes
  • The flexibility to work additional shifts, including some weekends and public holidays
  • The ability to work at all Mater Hospital locations including South Brisbane, Redland and Springfield
