We are growing our team! This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated, professional Pharmacist to join our Clinical Services team, in a casual position.
We welcome Pharmacists with previous hospital experience and other Pharmacists looking for a chance to build clinical pharmacy skills and experience as on-the-job training will be provided to support your transition into hospital pharmacy.
Mater Health Services, Southeast Queensland comprises a unique collection of two public and four private hospitals at South Brisbane, Springfield and Redland caring for over 500,000 patients each year and we are looking forward to the expansion of our Springfield hospital this year to include a wider range of services including maternity, paediatrics and emergency care.
Mater Pharmacy provides a clinical service to all inpatient areas and outpatient services, so this represents a fantastic opportunity to make a positive contribution to the health and wellbeing of this community and to contribute to a strong, unified, inter-professional Clinical Services team at Mater.
Salary range: $43.68 – $58.59 per hour plus a 25% casual allowance plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
This is a rotational position working across the pharmacy dispensaries as well as inpatient wards of our South Brisbane, Springfield and/or Redland campuses. You will work closely with hospital staff and patients to deliver a consistently high level of clinical pharmacy service by providing customers, patients, carers and other health professionals with support and information relating to medication and medication safety practices.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Managing supply of inpatient and discharge medications for hospital patients and some outpatients
- Checking prepared medications prior to delivery to wards and patients
- Compiling and documenting best possible medication history for hospital inpatients
- Reconciliation and clinical review of prescribed medications
- Preparation of discharge medication and discharge medication summaries
- Medication education and counselling for patients and their carers
- Working withing a team of pharmacists, technicians and students providing supervision and assistance as required and contributing to improvement activities
- Providing medication related information, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team.
- Liaison with external facilities and community health care providers to ensure continuity of care for individual patients
You will be working across public and private inpatient areas including general medical, surgical and obstetric wards as well as inpatient dispensaries which manages medication distribution to all clinical areas including day units, procedural areas, Hospital in the Home and the Mater Infusion Clinic.
Depending on your experience and interest, opportunities exist to develop clinical pharmacy skills and expertise within a range of clinical specialties:
- paediatrics and adolescent health
- oncology and haematology
- adult intensive care
- coronary care and interventional cardiology
- obstetrics and gynaecology
- special care and neonatal intensive care
Our Central Dispensary at South Brisbane also provides an extended hours service for all our hospitals so shifts will be available weekdays as well as evening, public holiday, weekend and potentially on-call rosters.
Mater Pharmacy is dedicated to the exceptional care and service of all our patients and customers. In addition to clinical pharmacy services, we provide traditional community pharmacy medicines and retail products to patients, visitors and staff.
About you
To be considered for this role you must have:
- Bachelor of Pharmacy
- APHRA registration to practice as a Pharmacist (without restrictions)
Other highly regarded attributes include:
- Prior demonstrated experience in ward-based clinical pharmacy
- The flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, public holidays and on-call (with training)
- The ability to work at multiple Mater Hospital locations including South Brisbane, Redland and Springfield
