About the role
Mater is looking for an advanced practice Occupational Therapist to join our Queensland Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability and Autism Health. This is a maternity leave (19 hours per week) position maximum term for up to 12 months and will be based at our South Brisbane campus.
The role of the Occupational Therapist within Queensland Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability and Autism Health (QCEIDAH) will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, working closely with medical staff (psychiatry, general practice, physician), allied health professionals, nursing and other team members, while providing clinical leadership and advanced level expertise to ensure patients receive person-centred, evidence based care. Salary range: $73.12 - $76.30 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
Specific responsibilities of the role will include (but not be limited to):
- Provide independent OT assessment, review, and management of patients, with option to provide short term intervention and follow up for individuals with IDD and complex medical and psychosocial needs
- Advanced knowledge and experience to improve the health of individuals with intellectual or developmental disability and autism across the lifespan including adults
- Thorough knowledge of functional assessment and environmental adjustment to help people with IDD live meaningful, engaged lives
- Demonstrates advanced OT knowledge and skills related to IDD and associated conditions, including autism and mental illness
- Experience with sensory assessments to assist individuals with sensory sensitivities and sensory overload and support sensory modulation
- Proven experience and ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, establish priorities, exercise initiative, and deliver outputs within agreed timeframes
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability and experience in establishing and developing key relationships with stakeholders
- Demonstrated advanced skills to work autonomously and provide independent professional judgement and expertise in problem solving and clinical management
- Demonstrated advanced experience and commitment to professional development and quality improvement and /or research
- Demonstrated advanced commitment to work, health and safety and positive patient experience
- Advocate for individuals and provide support in self-advocacy to promote best outcomes and high-quality health
About you
Essential
- Current registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)
- Minimum of 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience in OT preferably in the area of IDD and / or psychosocial disability with experience managing junior OT staff and students
- Willingness and ability to be able to travel in Queensland
- A current, full drivers licence which is appropriate for the type of vehicle being driven, and comply with any restrictions on their licence (e.g. wearing glasses) while undertaking hospital duties (If applicable)
- Maintain compliance with the Mater’s Immunisation policy
- Agree to NDIS work screen process
Desirable
- Post graduate qualification or working towards in relevant field
- Experience in working with people with IDD
- Outpatient/community or outreach experience
