About the role
Mater Private Hospital Townsville is seeking an experienced and customer‑focused Food Services Assistant to join our onsite Café team. This permanent part‑time position offers 30 hours per week, with shifts scheduled between 6:45am and 2:30pm across a seven‑day roster, based at our Pimlico campus.
In this role, you will help support the daily café operations while delivering warm, efficient, and professional service to our staff, patients, and visitors. This position involves a variety of café duties, including customer service, food and beverage preparation, point‑of‑sale operation, and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment.
Salary range: $32.02 - $34.52 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you'll be doing
As a Food Service Assistant you will be involved in a variety of activities throughout the day, including but not limited to:
- Providing friendly, professional customer service to staff, patients, and visitors
- Preparing barista‑style coffees and operating the espresso machine
- Preparing and serving a range of food and beverage items
- Operating the cash register and managing point‑of‑sale transactions
- Assisting with stock rotation, replenishment, and basic food handling
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming café environment
- whilst adhering to the MPHT Food Safety program and health and safety regulations
- Supporting café workflow and working collaboratively with the wider team
About you
To be considered suitable for our Food Services Assistant position you will have:
- Food Handlers Certificate – or willing to obtain one
- Experience working in a fast paced café environment
- Experience preparing barista‑style coffees and operating the espresso machine
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen or food services
- An understanding of Infection Control Guidelines and willingness to learn
- Demonstrated commitment to the provision of quality customer service
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and work as part of a team
