Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking an experienced and patient-focused Registered Nurse to join our Day Surgery Unit team on a full-time or part-time, permanent basis. In this pivotal role, you will provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care while ensuring patients feel informed, reassured and supported prior to their surgical procedure. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to safe, efficient perioperative flow within a collaborative and values-driven environment.

This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.

Salary range: $41.74 - $53.53 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

In this dynamic role, you will coordinate and deliver high-quality nursing care while supporting safe surgical preparation and optimal patient outcomes.

You will:

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care in line with NMBA standards and Mater policies.
  • Undertake thorough patient assessments and care during the admission and post-operative phases of the patient journey.
  • Provide patient advocacy, ensuring informed consent and understanding of procedures.
  • Coordinate care and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth surgical admissions.
  • Promote safety and quality by adhering to infection control and clinical governance standards.
  • Follow correct escalation processes.
  • Support discharge planning processes and patient education.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the unit.
  • Mentor and support Enrolled Nurses, students and less experienced staff as required.

About you

You are a confident and compassionate Registered Nurse who thrives in a fast-paced perioperative environment and is committed to delivering exceptional patient-centred care.

You will bring:

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse.
  • Demonstrated clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to patient advocacy.
  • Ability to prioritise, coordinate care and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, safety and professional standards.
  • A proactive approach to professional development and continuous learning.
