About the role
Mater Mothers Hospital is looking for a Clinical Midwifery Consultant – Birthing Services to join the team. This permanent, full-time role will be based at our South Brisbane campus.

The Mater Mothers’ Hospital (MMH) Birthing Services is a tertiary level service providing family centred care to both private and public women with either uncomplicated or complicated pregnancies. The service is inclusive of a 15 bed Birth Suite and a 13 bed Pregnancy Assessment Centre (PAC) & Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) and Perioperative Midwifery Service. 

Salary range: $66.85 - $72.58 (RM Level 3) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

Clinical Midwifery Consultant - Birthing Suites at Mater Health Services practice within the relevant Standards for Nurses/Midwives as per the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and other legislation, standards and codes that can impact or inform the evidence-based practice of Nursing/Midwifery and are accountable for their own practice.

In addition to this you will:

  • Provide advanced clinical leadership and consultancy within Birthing Services at Mater Mothers’, supporting safe, evidence-based, person-centred maternity care.
  • Lead and coordinate complex midwifery care across the continuum, including Birth Suite, Pregnancy Assessment Centre and Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit.
  • Promote normal birth and woman-centred decision-making through contemporary, research-informed practice.
  • Mentor, coach and support midwives and nurses, fostering clinical excellence, critical thinking and professional development.
  • Drive quality improvement, risk management and service innovation initiatives to enhance patient safety and experience.
  • Collaborate closely with Midwifery Unit Managers, obstetric and neonatal teams, allied health and education partners to optimise care outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical education programs and strategic service improvements.

About you

  • Registered Midwife (or Registered Nurse and Midwife) with current AHPRA registration and extensive senior-level clinical experience in birthing services.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing complex maternity presentations within a tertiary setting.
  • Passionate advocate for evidence-based, family-centred care and the promotion of normal birth.
  • Confident clinical leader with the ability to work autonomously while thriving in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong communicator with highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to influence positive change.
  • Committed to continuous professional development, research integration and quality improvement.
  • Values-driven professional aligned with the mission and behavioural standards of a leading not-for-profit healthcare organisation.
