About the role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a highly experienced Nurse Unit Manager to join the Emergency Care Centre team within the Mater Private Hospital Mackay.
This will be a 0.5FTE position with other hours available within the unit to support a fulltime multi-level role.
Mater Private Hospital Mackay has been providing excellence in clinical and pastoral care to the people of Mackay and surrounds since 1927. Located on the northern bank of the Pioneer River since 2003, our hospital is a modern 105 bed facility featuring five operating theatres, a fully equipped day surgery unit, and a wide range of specialist clinical services.
Salary range: $71.42 - $76.80 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), you will provide operational/clinical management and leadership to the unit and provide a professional line management responsibility to nurses in the organisation. As the leader of this team, you will provide exceptional nursing management and be responsible for the clinical, resource management, education and research accountabilities of nursing within the Emergency Care Centre. Additionally, you will ensure the provision of best practice, quality and safety aspects of patient care.
As the Nurse Unit Manager, you will:
- Provide operational/clinical management and leadership to the Emergency Care Centre in partnership with nursing, medical, allied health and administrative teams
- Identifying and implementing opportunities for clinical service development and improvement in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager and General Manager
- Achieve optimal patient outcomes throughout the patient journey and continuum of care across Mater Health
- Maintain current knowledge and skills to ensure continued professional growth
- Developing, improving and monitoring systems and processes to ensure service is managed effectively and efficiently
- Professional line management of the nursing team
- Leading by example to provide high level clinical care for our patients
- Utilising expert level communication strategies to guide the team in achieving the unit’s goals
This role will see you managing an established team with a great mix of new graduates and highly experienced nursing staff, so you will need the ability to work with a diverse range of people.
About you
Your highly developed clinical and management leadership skills will see you leading the team, and your drive and innovative approach will see you further developing the models of care to improve the experience and outcomes for patients.
To be considered for the role you must have:
- 5 years post-graduate specialty nursing experience, preferable in the unit’s specialties
- Current AHPRA nursing registration with no restrictions
- Solid understanding of private health care
- Proven use of exceptional communication skill to motivate and lead a team to achieve goals
- Strong change management skills and influencing/negotiating experience
- Excellent time management skills
- Demonstrated competence in cost centre management
- Willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
