About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking a Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) to join the Perioperative and Procedural units on a permanent full-time basis (38 hours).

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) – Perioperative and Procedural Services provides advanced clinical leadership, expert practice, and strategic direction across the perioperative continuum, including anaesthetics, scrub/scout, post-anaesthesia care, endoscopy, and procedural areas.

Salary range: $66.85 - $72.58 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing

  • Work in collaboration with the Nurse Unit Managers, Perioperative Leadership Team, and multidisciplinary stakeholders to optimise patient safety, enhance clinical outcomes, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care across all procedural environments
  • The role is pivotal in driving service improvement, strengthening clinical governance, and embedding a culture of safety and quality across the departments
  • A core focus of the role is the leadership of quality and safety initiatives, including the development, implementation, and evaluation of systems that support safe patient care and patient flow
  • This includes oversight of risk management processes, clinical audits, incident review and investigation, and the implementation of strategies to mitigate identified risks
  • The CNC ensures alignment with NSQHS Standards, ACORN Standards, and organisational policies, promoting compliance and continuous improvement in clinical practice
  • The role plays a key part in translating evidence into practice to improve patient outcomes, reduce variation in care, and enhance the safety and efficiency of perioperative and procedural services. This includes leading quality improvement initiatives, evaluating outcomes through data analysis and benchmarking, and driving sustainable practice change
  • The CNC actively contributes to research, innovation, and the evaluation of models of care, with a strong focus on improving patient safety, experience, and clinical outcomes. The position promotes a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and continuous quality improvement, supporting staff to practise at an advanced level within their scope
  • As a Registered Nurse within Mater Health Services, the CNC practises in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) standards, relevant legislation, and professional codes and guidelines, and is accountable for their own clinical practice

About you

Your highly developed clinical and management leadership skills will see you leading the team, and your drive and innovative approach will see you further developing the modes of care to improve the experience and outcomes for patients.

To be considered for the role you must have:

  • Current AHPRA nursing registration
  • Minimum of five years full time experience in specific clinical specialty including experience as a Clinical Nurse or other leadership role
  • Tertiary qualification in specialty, health administration or management, clinical leadership, budget management and finance (or working towards)
  • Strong change management skills and influencing/negotiating experience
  • Excellent time management skills
  • The ability to effectively manage a clinical cost centre.
  • Post graduate clinical or management qualifications will also be very highly regarded
