About the role
Mater Research is seeking a motivated and skilled Research Support Officer to join the Cancer Biology Laboratory at the Translational Research Institute in South Brisbane. This part-time (3 or 4 days per week), maximum term (3 years) position will work under broad direction, exercising professional judgement to interpret policy and adapt procedures across ethics, governance, finance and biosafety, to perform a range of critical research-enabling tasks that underpin the focus of the Cancer Biology Laboratory on conducting discovery, translational and clinical trials research.
Salary range: $47.13 - $51.55 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
You will be responsible for drafting, submitting, and managing both animal and human ethics and governance submissions, including applications, adverse event and annual reporting, and usage monitoring. This work will be conducted through the UQ MyResearch system, the Mosaic database for animal ethics, and the national Ethics Research Management system for human ethics. You will also liaise closely with animal house staff, as well as UQ ethics and integrity units, and hospital ethics and governance personnel to ensure compliance and effective communication throughout the process. Other duties of the role include:
Monitor and reconcile laboratory financial accounts against budget using the Mater Research PowerBI system and the UQ MyBalance system
Draft grant outcome reports
Oversee the stewardship of agreements including funding agreements and material transfer agreements
Reconcile staff leave balances in Kronos and MyHR systems and liaise with Mater Research HR staff
Submit manuscripts for publication and manage interactions with journals
Coordinate funding applications
Manage UQ risk assessments, Institutional biosafety approvals, and Notifiable Low Risk Dealings (NLRD)
Maintain documentation for intellectual property management, and conflicts of interest.
Attend, as appropriate, organisational events.
Resolve complex submission/finance issues by interpreting UQ/Mater policies and escalating only where policy conflict arises.
About you
To be considered successful for this position you should have:
BSc, BSc Hons or PhD in a relevant field of science (eg. cancer biology)
Demonstrated experience with the MyResearch research management system for managing animal and human ethics submissions and research contracts, hands-on experience with the Mosaic mouse stock system, management of research budgets and financial reporting, as well as expertise in handling research contracts, intellectual property, and conflicts of interest.
Demonstrated experience managing UQ risk assessments, Institutional biosafety approvals, and Notifiable Low Risk Dealings (NLRD)
In-depth experience in biomedical laboratory research involving molecular, cellular and animal models of disease
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to engage effectively with staff and students at all organisational levels
Appropriate digital literacy skills including the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, statistical analysis software, Endnote referencing tool, and NCBI Resources including PubMed.
Demonstrated ability to work in compliance with all organisational and legal requirements.
