About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist (Hand Therapy, HP4) to join the Occupational Therapy department at Mater Health South Brisbane on a Part Time basis.
As a Senior Occupational Therapist in the surgical/orthopaedic stream, you will provide high level patient centred care to patients with acute and chronic hand conditions across orthopaedic and plastic specialists. As a Senior clinician within the Surgical stream, you will mentor and support HP3 surgical OT’s in managing complex inpatient cases. This is a 12 month maternity leave position, starting end of May, 20 hours/ week.
Salary range: $66.58 - $71.64 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
The key responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):
- Independently manage a complex and varied caseload where some presentations may require adaptation or modification of routine clinical practice to enhance patient outcomes
- Apply independent clinical judgement with minimal supervision, based on valid and reliable evidence
- Willingness to provide OT services across caseloads as required to respond to patient and service needs
- Provide delegation, supervision, training and support to junior occupational therapists, allied health assistants, students, support staff and volunteers within the surgical/hands clinical speciality
- Contribute to the development of new and existing services, models of care, procedures and protocols
- Identify, initiate, plan and evaluate quality and service improvement activities to achieve positive outcomes for clinical services and patients
- Actively contribute to the research culture and collaborate on clinical research activities
- Provide clinical hands/surgical advice within professional and multidisciplinary teams and when liaising with patients, families/carers and external agencies
About you
To be considered a successful candidate for this position you should have:
- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Eligibility with AHPRA
- Eligibility to receive a Medicare provider number
- Demonstrated high level of knowledge, clinical practice and use of clinical judgement in delivery of complex hands and surgical clinical services
- Experience in wound management.
- Commitment to ongoing clinical education and mentorship, including supervision of staff and students.
- Demonstrated leadership of clinical services and/or teams to operationalise departmental planning and support patient centred, evidenced based care
- Demonstrated highly effective communication and negotiation skills, and expertise in addressing conflict with profession and multidisciplinary teams, patients, carers and other stakeholders
Desirable Qualifications
- A post graduate qualification in hand therapy and/or full member of the Australian Hand Therapy Association and/or Certified Hand Therapist would be highly regarded.
