Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Senior Social Workers (HP4) to join our team in the Emergency Department (ED) full-time and/or part-time permanent roles. There is 1.4 FTE servicing the ED 7 days per week (Monday – Sunday) to be shared across a minimum of 2 successful candidates.
Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield — opening early 2026. This state of the art facility will meet the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually. The Emergency Department at Mater Hospital Springfield will have 56 bays and will support adult and paediatric presentations. We are seeking Senior clinicians with Emergency Department experience to commence this exciting new service.
Salary range: $66.58 - $71.64 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Provide clinical Social Work advice within professional and multidisciplinary teams and when liaising with patients, their families/carers and external agencies.
- Contributing to the planning and delivering an efficient social work service in the Emergency Department, reporting to the Social Work Team Lead.
- Exercise independent professional judgment in managing a complex and diverse patient population, including critically assessing needs, prioritizing interventions, and adapting to crisis situations in a timely manner.
- Deliver high levels of clinical assessment skills and the ability to implement complex interventions to ensure the fulfilment of patient centred care.
- Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate a positive patient journey contribute to the promotion, development and enhancement of Social Work services in the Emergency Department utilising evidence-based practice principles.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with professional and legal requirements.
- Provide delegation, supervision, training and support to less experienced health practitioners, allied health assistants, and students within Social Work team.
About you
The successful applicant will possess:
- Post graduate qualifications in Social Work or related field, and/or AASW Accredited Mental Health Social Worker desirable
- At least three years’ experience in the provision of Social Work services, ideally in an Emergency Department setting or acute setting.
- Demonstrated high level clinical practice and independent clinical judgement in the delivery of Social Work assessment and interventions within clinical services
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, contribute to decision making and address conflict with profession and multidisciplinary teams, patients, carers and other stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop and evaluate quality and service improvement activities that improve clinical services and patient outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent professional judgment in a complex environment including adaptability and flexibility to provide a responsive service in a fast-paced environment.
