About the role
Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Nurse to join our Planned Care team in a permanent full-time role working within the Mater Referral Hub.
The Mater Referral Hub receives and processes all public outpatient referrals, for Mater Hospital Brisbane and Mater Hospital Springfield. New patient referrals are received from various sources (predominately GP and specialist) and are clinically screened using endorsed guidelines and are registered and waitlisted on the relevant (Mater) facility’s waiting list.
This role is pivotal in enabling the right care, in the right place, at the right time, maximising capacity and ensuring effective allocation of resources through a patient-centred approach.
Salary range: $54.44 - $58.30 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
This role will see you demonstrate your commitment to providing quality clinical care. As the first point of access to care at Mater, the MRH Clinical Nurse provides clinical leadership to support the delivery of equitable, timely and clinically appropriate patient care. Using advanced clinical assessment skills and comprehensive knowledge of Mater’s Clinical Service Capability Framework and facility service profiles, the Clinical Nurse assesses referrals to facilitate appropriate care pathways.

The successful candidate will be dedicated and proactive, approaching their work with enthusiasm and a strong work ethic. To be considered suitable for this role, the candidate must have:
- Current AHPRA registration (no restrictions) with 5+ years acute nursing experience
- Clinical competency and the ability to maintain the highest standards of nursing practice
- Excellent knowledge and assessment skills
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated clinical leadership capability
- Ability to provide mentorship and training to junior team members as well as support and train new members of the Referral hub team
- High level communication skills when liaising with patients, families and staff within professional, legal and ethical parameters
- Exceptional time management
- High level competence in using electronic information systems such as patient information systems, procedural booking system, Outlook and Microsoft Excel
- Existing knowledge of the ability to acquire knowledge in Mater’s referral management guidelines including Clinical Prioritisation Criteria and Health Pathways
- An existing understanding or ability to acquire knowledge in applying the Specialist Outpatient Services Implementation Standard
- An existing understanding or ability to acquire understanding of the national quality and safety standards
- Previous experience with developing and reviewing patient information. Clinical forms, policy and procedure documents advantageous
