Director - Marketing and Brand

The Director, Marketing and Brand is a senior, hands-on leadership role responsible for shaping, strengthening and protecting Mater’s brand, reputation and connection with the communities we serve.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Corporate Affairs and Growth, this role leads Mater’s marketing, brand, campaigns, events and social and digital  activity. It is a critical role in ensuring Mater’s story is clear, compelling and aligned to our strategic business direction as well as our Mission and values.

This is not a role for someone who wants to advise from the sidelines. You will need to operate both strategically and practically — setting direction, leading a team, advising executives and senior leaders, and stepping into implementation.

Working in a fast-paced, complex and changing environment, you will help drive organisational growth, strengthen reputation, support stakeholder engagement and deliver high-quality marketing and brand activity that demonstrates Mater’s impact across Queensland.

Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading the development and execution of integrated marketing, brand and engagement strategies aligned to Mater’s Group Strategy
  • Protecting and strengthening Mater’s brand and reputation across all channels and audiences
  • Delivering impactful campaigns and content that drive growth, service utilisation, fundraising and community awareness
  • Delivering projects and campaigns aligned to private growth priorities, while identifying and developing new ideas to grow awareness, referrals, patient demand and market position
  • Providing strategic advice to Executive and senior leaders on marketing, communications and reputation management
  • Leading marketing, digital and social media responses to sensitive issues, ensuring activity is timely, coordinated and aligned to Mater’s reputation and stakeholder expectations.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders, partners, consumers and the broader community
  • Managing and mentoring a high-performing, multidisciplinary team
  • Overseeing budgets, resources and external suppliers to deliver value and return on investment
  • Establishing performance metrics and using data insights to measure effectiveness and continuously improve outcomes
  • Collaborating with the broader Corporate Affairs team to ensure marketing and brand activities amplify and integrate with communications, media, digital and stakeholder engagement initiatives
  • Ensuring all marketing and communication activities meet governance, compliance and brand standards
  • Leading Mater’s events function, overseeing the planning and delivery of a broad range of organisational, stakeholder, community and signature events across Mater.

About you

You are an experienced and strategic marketing leader with a strong track record of delivering impactful campaigns and driving organisational growth in complex environments. You are equally comfortable setting the strategy as you are in rolling up your sleeves and implementing the work.

You will bring:

  • Extensive senior leadership experience in marketing, communications and stakeholder engagement
  • Proven expertise in brand management, strategic marketing, communications and public relations
  • Strong experience advising executive stakeholders and influencing at a senior level
  • Demonstrated success leading high-performing teams and fostering a collaborative, values-driven culture
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, compelling messaging
  • A data-driven mindset, with experience measuring performance and optimising outcomes
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across internal, external, government and community sectors
  • Experience managing budgets, resources and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (with qualifications or sector experience in healthcare, research, education or not-for-profit highly regarded)

You are adaptable, solutions-focused and thrive in dynamic environments, bringing sound judgement, professionalism and a genuine commitment to delivering work that makes an impact.
