About the Role

Mater Private Hospital Townsville is seeking a highly experienced Registered Nurse to join our Quality and Safety team as an Infection Control Officer. Reporting to the Quality and Safety Manager, the successful applicant will be based at our Pimlico campus and will work a 5-day fortnight, with flexibility across selected days.

In this role you will provide clinical leadership, expert consultancy and strategic direction in infection prevention and control across Mater Health Services. You will lead the delivery of a proactive, evidence-based IPC service that enhances patient safety and reduces healthcare-associated infections across our hospitals. Working across clinical practice, education and research, you will play a critical role in ensuring our organisation meets national standards, public health requirements, and continuously improves infection control outcomes statewide.

Salary range: $56.08 - $60.05 (Registered Nurse Level 2) per hour plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide expert clinical advice and consultancy on infection prevention and control across multiple hospital sites
  • Lead the implementation of best-practice IPC strategies, policies and procedures to reduce healthcare-associated infections
  • Drive surveillance and outbreak management activities, including interpreting epidemiological data and reporting notifiable conditions
  • Monitor and report infection control data to support continuous improvement in patient safety and care quality
  • Support healthcare capital projects, ensuring IPC principles are embedded in planning, design and construction
  • Collaborate with clinical governance, safety and quality teams, and public health stakeholders to ensure consistent statewide IPC delivery
  • Lead incident reviews, contribute to risk mitigation strategies and support accreditation readiness
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development for infection control practitioners and multidisciplinary teams
  • Represent the organisation in professional forums and contribute to innovation and advancement in IPC practices
  • Contribute to preparedness and response planning for emerging infectious diseases and pandemics

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
  • Postgraduate qualification in Infection Prevention and Control desirable but not mandatory
  • Knowledge of IPC principles, legislation, and national standards, including NSQHS Standard 3
  • Demonstrated experience leading IPC initiatives, policy development and outbreak response in complex healthcare environments
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret epidemiological data and translate evidence into practice
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across clinical, executive and external stakeholders
  • A passion for innovation, continuous improvement and delivering safe, high-quality patient care
