About the role
Mater Hospital Springfield is seeking applications for Clinical Nurse – Public Surgical Inpatient Unit to join us in a full time, 12-month parental leave contract role from late August 2026 until early September 2027.
Based at our Springfield campus, these roles will be part of a landmark moment in Queensland healthcare at Mater Hospital Springfield which opened in early 2026. This state-of-the-art facility meets the needs of the growing Greater Springfield region. With a mix of public and private beds across ICU, maternity, emergency and medical, surgical services, it’s set to care for over 200,000 patients annually.
Salary range: $56.08 - $60.05 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
As a Clinical Nurse you will provide advanced clinical and problem-solving skills, expert planning and coordination skills in the clinical management of clients with complex care needs, ensuring quality standards are met. The CN provides clinical leadership for professional and clinical practice, education and research. The role supports management activities, including portfolio responsibilities where applicable.
Whilst displaying the highest level of clinical standards for the unit you will be responsible for:
- Achieving optimal patient outcomes throughout the patient journey and continuum of care
- Demonstrating advanced clinical expertise and knowledge of procedures and the management of patients seeking outstanding care
- Supporting the Nurse Unit Manager in implementing strategies to ensure that quality and risk management are integrated into service provision, along with staffing within budget requirements
- Maintaining current knowledge and skills to ensure continued professional growth
About you

To be successful in this position, you will possess:
- Currently AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
- Demonstrated nursing experience within a surgical setting or have transferable skills that can be developed with professional training
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and clinical problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated commitment to continued quality improvement and best practice principles
