About the role

Mater Private Hospital Townsville is seeking applications for a casual Orderly to join our team and support our wards. This casual role operates on a rotating 24/7 roster, including morning, afternoon and night shifts.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Hospital Orderly to support the safe, efficient, and respectful movement of patients, equipment, and supplies throughout the hospital. In this important frontline role, you will assist nursing and clinical teams, maintain a clean and safe environment, and contribute to high‑quality patient care every day. As a key member of our support services team, you will follow best‑practice safety, infection control, and patient handling procedures while helping keep our hospital functioning smoothly and effectively.

Salary range: $32.02 - $34.52 per hour plus casual loading and weekend penalties plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  + access to many staff benefits! 

What you'll be doing

  • Safely lift, move, and transport patients using correct manual‑handling techniques and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised environment, following infection control and hospital cleaning standards.
  • Handle, transport, and safely store equipment, furniture, and medical gases in line with hospital procedures.
  • Provide basic patient care under nursing supervision and respond appropriately to emergencies, including giving basic first aid when required.
  • Manage waste disposal and clean contaminated equipment according to policy.
  • Assist clinical staff in speciality areas, including supporting sterile procedures and maintaining sterile fields.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team and complete tasks assigned by the Team Leader or After Hours Nurse Manager.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, meetings, and accreditation processes.
  • Undertake in‑charge responsibilities when delegated and contribute ideas that enhance patient care and service delivery.

About You

  • An understanding of infection control procedures and safe work practices
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Good organisational and time‑management skills
  • Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment is highly desirable
  • Experience working in a patient‑facing or support‑services role
