Mater has an exciting opportunity for an experienced IR practitioner to join the People, Culture and Learning team as a Principal Industrial Relations Advisor.
Reporting to the Director Workplace Relations and Safety, this is a pivotal role where you will provide expert industrial relations leadership and advice across Queensland's largest for purpose healthcare organisation including twelve private and public hospitals across Queensland.
You will play a key role in delivering Mater’s industrial relations strategy by leading enterprise bargaining, advising on complex workforce matters, and representing Mater in industrial tribunals where required.
Working closely with senior leaders and executives, HR Business Partners and the IR and ER teams, you will deliver practical, risk-aware and outcome-focused solutions that support both our people and organisational priorities.
Salary: Commensurate with experience plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
- Provide strategic IR and employment law advice, supporting leaders through complex issues, organisational change and industrial matters
- Lead and support enterprise bargaining, including benchmarking, strategy, negotiation, implementation and ongoing agreement management
- Provide guidance on complex workplace relations matters and investigations, ensuring fair, compliant and commercially sound outcomes
- Represent Mater in industrial tribunals (including the Fair Work Commission), preparing submissions and advocacy materials
- Develop and review policies and procedures to ensure alignment with legislation and best practice
- Build strong relationships with unions and key stakeholders, managing consultation and engagement processes
- Support team members across the broader People, Capability and Learning team, contributing to capability uplift.
About you
- Strong experience in industrial relations and employment law, including enterprise bargaining and advocacy
- Confidence when engaging with unions, senior leaders and external bodies, with solid negotiation and influencing skills
- Ability to manage complex IR matters and deliver practical, balanced solutions
- Capability to build trusted relationships with clear and articulate communications skills.
- A law degree would be highly advantageous.
- Experience in a large multi-disciplinary organisation.
