About the role
Mater Private Hospital Rockhampton is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Speech Therapist to join our team on a casual basis. This role provides the opportunity to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based clinical care to patients within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.
The successful candidate will work across the acute wards, providing assessment and management of patients with communication, swallowing and cognitive‑communication impairments.
Salary range: $44.99 - $60.35 (HP3) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
The successful candidate will:
Deliver routine speech therapy services aligned with HP3 scope and clinical competency in the assessment, diagnosis and management of swallowing and communication disorders.
Undertake independent clinical decision-making to design and implement appropriate evidence‑based interventions in a dynamic acute care environment.
Apply contemporary assessment and intervention approaches to:
Differentiate and manage swallowing and communication impairments in medically complex patients.
Inform timely discharge planning and contribute to patient flow requirements.
Work collaboratively within speech therapy and multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic, patient‑centred care.
Demonstrate strong time‑management and organisational skills, including efficient caseload prioritisation.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of clinical and non‑clinical activities.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and service development activities as required.
Engage in regular supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing professional development.
About you
To be considered for this position, you should:
Hold a tertiary qualification in Speech Therapy
Hold (or be eligible for) Practising Membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
Demonstrate clinical experience in the assessment and management of swallowing (dysphagia) and communication disorders within a healthcare setting.
Understand acute hospital workflows, multidisciplinary collaboration and patient-centred care principles.
Commit to evidence-based practice, continuous learning and quality improvement.
Possess strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Have the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced acute environment.
Experience working with medically complex patients, including those in critical care settings (desirable).
