We’re seeking a Senior Media Advisor to work within our Corporate Affairs team based in Newstead, Brisbane.

You will play a key role in showcasing the work of Mater, highlighting the achievements of our clinicians and researchers and their impact on the lives of our patients.

This role requires an empathetic and sensitive storyteller, with sound news judgement and the ability to think and plan strategically.

Whether you’re telling the story of miracle babies at Mater Mothers’ Hospital or vaccine breakthroughs at Mater Research, this is an opportunity to be inspired – and to inspire others.  

Salary range: $124,394 - $133,248 per annum plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits! 

What you’ll be doing 

  • Working with the Media and Communications leadership team to support Mater’s strategic objectives.
  • Taking a leading role in Mater’s media activity across Mater Health, Mater Research, Mater Foundation and Mater Education.
  • Supporting the Director Communications and Media in identifying media issues, responding to media inquiries and providing strategic advice to key stakeholders.
  • Developing proactive media opportunities to showcase Mater’s services and people.
  • Providing advice and support to key internal and external Mater communications projects.
  • Building collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders across Mater.  

About you 

  • Tertiary qualification in journalism, communications, public relations or relevant discipline.
  • Minimum five years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience of TV, radio, print or online journalism is highly valued.
  • Passion for telling health and human stories is essential.
