About the role

Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking an experienced Senior Administration Officer to join our busy Emergency Department in a permanent part-time position (32 hours per week / 0.8 FTE), working across a 24/7 roster including days, lates, nights, weekend and public holiday shifts.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role within one of Queensland's busiest Emergency Departments, providing high-quality administrative support that keeps the department running efficiently, supports exceptional patient care, and contributes to safe and effective patient flow. Working as part of a collaborative team, you'll be at the centre of a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. The role provides senior administrative support with a strong focus on operational efficiency, patient experience and supporting the wider multidisciplinary team.

Salary range: $39.79 - $44.25 per hour plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

As a key member of the Emergency Department administration team, you will:

  • Provide frontline reception and administrative support across key Emergency Department areas including triage, admissions and patient flow.
  • Accurately register, admit and discharge patients while ensuring all patient information is entered correctly and efficiently.
  • Process Medicare, private health insurance and billing information, including identifying Medicare-ineligible patients and liaising with Finance to facilitate payment.
  • Support clinical teams by ensuring administrative services are delivered efficiently across the department's daily roster.
  • Perform a range of senior administrative duties including bookings, patient payments, record management, data quality activities and health information administration.
  • Assist with rostering, operational coordination and day-to-day administrative priorities within the department.
  • Support meetings, projects and continuous improvement initiatives as required.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, families and colleagues while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

About you

You'll be an organised and resilient administrator who thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment. You enjoy working as part of a team, have excellent attention to detail, and are passionate about delivering outstanding service to patients and colleagues.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous administration experience, ideally within a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, customer-focused setting where accuracy and efficiency are essential.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Medicare, private health insurance or medical billing processes is highly desirable.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills and experience using hospital or health information systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • A high level of attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate patient records.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A patient-centred approach with a genuine commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including early, late and night shifts.
