About the role

Mater’s Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service (CLPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Unit Manager to join the team. This is a permanent, part-time position working 36 hours per week based at South Brisbane.

The Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service (CLPS) is a specialised mental health team providing mental health consultation, liaison, advice and brief interventions to adult patients of the general hospital who are experiencing a psychiatric disorder, illness or psychological distress.

The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) will provide clinical and operational leadership to the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service, while also holding professional line management responsibilities for nursing staff across the Mental health services, Clarence Street, Mater Young Adult Health Centre Brisbane (MAYAHCB) and Amanda Flynn Clinic.

Salary range: $75.40 - $81.09 per hour plus superannuation andaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900  +access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

You will provide exceptional nursing management and be responsible for the clinical, resource management, education, research and material accountabilities of nursing within the department. The NUM will form part of the leadership team and work closely with the Psychiatrist of the service.

As the NUM, you will lead service in the development and operation management of services which include Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service (CLPS) and other mental health services within Mater Health. You will also provide professional leadership and clinical supervision to nurses working in other multidisciplinary teams, including Mater Clarence Street and Mater Young Adult Health Centre Brisbane (MYAHCB).

Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Caring for and leading a team of professionals
  • Communication and coordination of patient care
  • Engagement with stakeholders in other departments to ensure the highest quality patient care, that services are efficient, that patient safety is optimized, and to resolve barriers to patient flow.
  • Team management, including performance management and compliance with Human Resources processes
  • Delivery of work against relevant timeframes
  • Leave backfill for Mater Hospital Springfield CLPS, where required

About you

To be considered for this position, you must have a current AHPRA nursing registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions) and tertiary qualification in specialty, health administration or management, clinical leadership, budget management and finance (or working towards).

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Previous experience in a nursing leadership position will be highly regarded
  • Advanced clinical competency underpinned by a thorough understanding of the Mental Health Act and least-restrictive practice.
  • Minimum of five years full time experience in mental health nursing
  • Experience working in public and private sector is desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and provide mentorship to develop your team
  • High level of communication (written and verbal) and the ability to liaise with your team as an effective senior leader
  • An understanding of key financial metrics related to clinical cost-centre reporting, demonstrated application of risk management and quality improvement principles in a clinical environment, and an understanding of human resource management practices.
  • Strong leadership ability and experience, excellent time management skills and the desire to promote the philosophy and values of Mater
